Abstract:The profile characteristics of chemical oxygen demand (COD ) were studied based on the investigation data in Rushan Bay and adjacent area in spring (May) and autumn (October) of 2011 .The influencing factors and contribution of COD to eutrophication were also analyzed .The results showed that the distribution of COD was characterized by a decreasing tendency from the upper bay to the outside bay in spring and autumn .The concentration of COD was higher in spring than that in autumn .The content of COD in spring and autumn showed a negative correlation with temperature and salinity (P< 0 .01) ,while a positive correlation with level of dissolved inorgainic nitrogen(DIN) (P< 0 .05) .The range of COD contribution to the eutrophication was from 39 .53% to 67 .18% ,COD as an important factor contributing to eutrophication ,not the decisive factor .
