Abstract The anti-bacterial activities of extracts from kelp Laminaria japonica against four microorganism species Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger, and Cerevisiae fermented were studied, and the extraction conditions were optimized. The extract from the kelp showed anti-bacterial activity only against Bacillus subtilis. Good extraction and anti-bacterial activities were observed in 95% methanol under the optimal conditions of pH 7 at 30 ℃ for 8 h based on the inhibition circles.
