Abstract The active bacterial tetragenus agent with four available microbes was added to the water in aquaculture ponds to decrease the contentss of ammonia nitrogen and nitrite in the ponds. The results showed that the contents of ammonium nitrogen and nitrite were decreased by the microbes. The more microbes was added, the faster ammonium nitrogen and nitrite decreased. The rank of elimination of the ammonium nitrogen by the microbes was ranged in a descendant order as the following:Lactobacillus > photosynthetic bacteria >nitrobacteria> Bacillus natto. For nitrite, the rank of elimination of the ammonium nitrogen by the microbes was ranged in a descendant order as the following:nitrobacteria > bacillus natto >photosynthetic bacteria > Lactobacillus. 52%, 80% and 74%of the ammonium nitrogen were eliminated 5 days after the active bacteria tetragenus agent was added at a rate of 1.5×10~(-7), 3.0×10~(-7), and 4.5×10~(-7) g/ml, respectively, significantly higher than that by the single microbes at the same dose.
