Abstract An 8 week feeding experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of supplementation of methionine(0,0.2%,and 0.4%) in soybean meal-based diets on growth of yellow catfish Pelteobagrus vachelli . There were significantly higher weight gain in the fish fed the diets containing 0.2%,and 0.4% of methionine than in the fish fed the diet containing 0% of methionine( P <0.05) . The peak weight gain(176.22±3.56) % and significantly higher survival rate were observed in the fish fed the diets containing 0.2% of methionine( P <0.05) . There were no significant differences in feed conversion ratio and food consumption( P >0.05) among the experimental groups. Between every groups, even though the fish fed the diet supplemented with 0.2% of methionine had 12.50% higher food consumption and lowest diet ratio in the contorl group (2.60±0.13) . Therefore, under this condition,it is suggested that the optimal supplementation of methionine in the yellow catfish diets be 0.2%~0.4%.
