Abstract The effects of nitrogen, phosphorus, nitrogen and phosphorus ratio and silicon on growth of alga Chaetoceros gracilis was conducted through the monoculture. The optimal concentration for the alga growth was found to be 5 factor. There was no significant effect of silicon concentration on the growth of the alga(P>0.05), indicating that the silicon is just an influence factor rather than a limiting factor.
