Abstract The tolerance of juvenile peanut worm Sipunculus nudus to abrupt and gradual changes in salini‐ty and temperature ,and desiccation was studied during the intermediate culture .It was found that the pea‐nut worm tolerated salinity extensively from 10 to 45 ,with suitable salinity ranging from 15 to 40 .The suitable water temperature was changed from 15 ℃ to 30 ℃ ,with high tolerance to low temperature .There was no mortality in the peanut worm exposed to low temperature and desiccation for 48 h ,but mass mortal‐ity were found in the peanut worm exposed to desiccation for 72—96 h .The findings indicate that S .nudus is a eurythermal and euryhaline species near coastal regions ,and strong competence to stand desiccation , with convenient for long distance transport .
