Effect of Salinity Stress on Physiological Status and Survival in Hybrid Sturgeon
WANG Xiaowen,ZHU Hua,KUANG Xinyu,HU Hongxia
To investigate the effects of abrupt salinity changes on survival rates and physiological status , hybrid sturgeon (Siberian huso sturgeon H uso dauricus♀ × Amur sturgeon A cipenser schrenckii ♂) ju‐veniles with body weight of(7 .28 ± 0 .56) g were transferred to freshwater (control) and salinity levels of 5 ,10 ,15 ,and 20 .The serum non‐specific immune indicators ,activities of antioxidant enzymes in liver and activities of Na+ /K+‐ATPase in gill were analyzed 1 ,6 ,12 ,24 ,48 ,and 96h after salinity change . The results showed the fish exposed to a salinity of 20 were all found dead within one hour ,exposed to sa‐linity of 10 ,and 15 all dead in 96h and 12 h ,respectively ,w hile no mortality occurred in salinity 5 group and control groups .Activities of gill Na+ /K+‐ATPase in salinity 5 group increased sharply after immer‐gence ,the serum total protein level were at peak at 12h ,and serum acid phosphatase (AKP) activity in‐creased slightly(P> 0 .05) .While there were no significant differences between salinity 5 and control groups except for peak at 48 h(P<0 .05) .In salinity 10 group ,the activities of serum lysozyme signifi‐cantly rose at 6 h ,and AKP activity reached a maximum at 24h after that decreased dramatically ( P<0.05) .Obviously ,the activities of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT)in salinity 10 group were signif‐icantly higher than those in salinity 5 or control groups except the activity at 12 h .In salinity 15 group ,ac‐tivities of serum lysozyme significantly rose at 6h(P<0 .05) ,at the same time ,the serum total protein de‐clined rapidly .The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and contents of malonaldehyde (MDA) in liv‐er in all groups showed the same trend as firstly increasing ,then decreasing ,after that slightly rising ,and the minimum at 12 .Also ,the range of changes in salinity 10 group was greater than in salinity 5 group . Activities of liver catalase(CAT)in each group were decreased to the minimum at 1 h(P<0 .05) ,then ele‐vated to the maximum at 12h ,and decreased continuously .

Analysis and Discrimination of Sexual Dimorphism of Hemibarbus maculatus Bleeker by Morphometry
TUO Yun,XIAO Tiaoyi
Hemibarbus maculates Bleeker ,a small freshwater fish in family Cyprinidae ,as an endemic species in China ,is of great commercial value .In this paper ,we studied morphological information of 132 H .maculates samples collected at Yuanzhou section (113°54′-114°37′E ,27°33′-28°05′N )of Yuanhe River in Yichun , Jiangxi Province from March in to 2009 June in 2012 .Based on the analysis of the morphological index system by Principal Components and R-cluster Analysis ,H .maculates was classified by body size and condition factor .On the basis of this analysis ,19 characteristics were normalized and further used for stepwise discriminant ,and then 5 characteristics were screened including condition factor , interorbital ,body depth ,distance between pelvic fin and anal fin ,and caudal peduncle length .Thus the discriminant equations were built for classification of 132 samples with accuracy rate of 97% .One‐way ANOVA revealed that there were significant differences in seven standardized characteristics and body length between male and female populations (P<0 .05) .Therefore ,it was concluded that the female H . maculates collected from Yuanhe River were superior to males in the condifion factor and body size ,but had smaller interorbital diameter ,caudal peduncle length and pectoral fin length .The findings can be used in sexual identification of H .maculatus and provides the basis information for its reproduction .

Suitable Feeding Frequency of Juvenile Chinese Giant Salamander
YANG Zhenjiang,XIAO Hanbing,TIAN Haifeng,MENG Yan,HU Qiaomu,WANG Fang
Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) juveniles (18 months old) were reared in 193 cm × 167 cm cement tanks at a rate of 80 individuals per tank and fed in various feeding regimes at water tem‐perature of 19 ± 1 ℃ to evaluate the suitable feeding frequency via grow th performance ,body composition and digestive enzyme activity in an intensive aquaculture .The results showed that there were elevated food intake and digestive enzyme activity in the fasted salamander .The maximal weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) and minimal food conversion ratio (FCR) were observed in the salamander fed and fasted alternatively in a 6 day interval ,significantly higher or lower than those in the other groups(P<0.05) .The salamander fed and fasted alternatively in a 2 day interval(S2F2) had high protein content and low fat content ,and there was lower survival rate in the salamander fed and fasted alternatively in a 6 or 8 day interval (S6F6 and S8F8) than that in other groups .When very high survival rate and body nutri‐ents were hoped ,the suitable feeding frequency was of feeding and fasting alternatively in a 2 day interval . If not ,suitable feeding frequency was of feeding and fasting alternatively in a 6 day interval ,which the ju‐venile salamander had relatively high survival rate ,grow th performance and body nutrients .

Changes in Shape and Nutrients in Decomposition of Tilapia Feces
CHEN Jiajie,TAN Hongxin,YU Zhongli,LUO Guozhi,GAO Jinfang,XU Yaqian
The bioflocculation process in a reactor was observed under a microscope and scanning electronic microscope and crude protein ,amino acids and extracellular polymeric substances were determined in feces of NEW GIFT Oreochromis niloticus collected in a recirculating aquaculture system .It was found that the feces became loosely ,feces developed into bioflocs framed with filamentous fungi with reaction of the bioflocs .With the decomposition of feces ,there was slow increase in level of the ammonium ,with the peak value of 7 .46 mg/L in the reactor on the 7th day ,and the nitrite was shown to be increased to 7 .81 mg/L , with the rapidly accumulative nitrate of 21 .6 mg/L .On the 9th day ,the crude protein had the peak content of 26 .37% ,and then decreased to 25 .45% ,and the total amino acids was found to be the peak value of 20 .44% on the 7th day ,and then decreased to 18 .11% .There were lower level of essential amino acids in bioflocs than in the feed (13 .03% ) , even though higher than in the feces (9 .36% ) . The polysaccharides were primariy substance in the loosely bound extracellular polymeric substances(LB‐EPS) in the bioflocs ,while protein was the main component in the tightly bound EPS(TB‐EPS)in the bioflocs .
