Abstract:Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of salinity fluctuation on embryonic development of crayfish Procambarus clarkii. The fertilized zygotes were found to hatch out under the temperature of less than 25 ℃ and a salinity of 0~8. Higher hatching rates and more larvae were observed within salinity ranging from 0 to 4. Beyond this salinity range, however, the hatching rate dramatically decreased, and incubation period prolonged. Hence, a conclusion can be drawn from these experiments that salinity from 0 to 4 was particularly suitable for the embryonic development of the crayfish with relatively high hatching rate and short incubation period.
