Isolation, Identification and Antibiotic Sensitivity of Pathogen Stenotrophomonas maltophilia from Hybrid Sturgeon

Abstract:Morphological observation, physiological and biochemical characteristics, 16S rDNA and gyrB gene sequence analysis were used to identify a suspected pathogen strain SXG-1 isolated and purified from the liver of the diseased sturgeon hybrid [kaluga sturgeon (Huso dauricus)♀×Amur sturgeon(Acipenser schrenckii)♂] collected from a farm in Suiyang district, Guizhou Province, in September to October of 2017, with cumulative mortality of 20% in order to effectively promote the development of sturgeon breeding industry in Guizhou Province and to reduce the damage caused by disease outbreaks. The strain SXG-1 was identified as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. Artificial infected fish by intraperitoneal SXG-1-injection showed same symptoms as that of natural ones with similar morphological and biochemical characteristics, proving to be the pathogen of the hybrid sturgeon, with LD50 of 3.9×108 cfu/mL. The antibiotic sensitivity test revealed that the isolate was sensitive to enrofloxacin and florfenicol. The finding provides scientific guidance to the prevention and control the disease of sturgeon.
